Abstract It may seem paradoxical that working without remuneration can contribute to well-being, yet this is precisely what has been observed in empirical studies: Volunteer work act as a psychosocial resource . In order understand rationale, it important see volunteering within the context of salutogenic model and role theories. This helps explain how maintaining health promoting well-being; complement or compensate other areas activity, especially paid employment; better work–life balance.
